6 Is The New 5…and Sharks Are Awesome

My big beast turned 6 years old last week. Holy jeebus, how did that happen? Here she is on her 6th birthday wearing the glamorous dress her Aunt Bree bought for her. Very impressive train ride as well.

I always liked the thought of doing a “family” birthday celebration separately from the “friend” party. I think it makes kids feel loved and special, when in reality, my kids just milk two parties out of me EVERY YEAR. But to get them back, I drink, so it’s a win-win right?

For Elizabeth, we planned a surprise trip to Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto, complete with an always-fun GoTrain ride. I just didn’t plan on the expense…yeesh!! But I promise not to moan on about the cost {too much}.

The aquarium was awesome. It had sharks. For that reason alone it is definitely the best place in Toronto that doesn’t have a liquor licence.

Every undersea creature on Earth was there {I’m assuming}. Seahorses, an octopus, fish galore, rays, jellyfish, starfish, and so much more.

Someone really had their thinking cap on when they designed that place. The flow from area to area was fabulous, thankfully, because even though it was a Thursday at 11am, the place was bumpin’ quite busy. My first brilliant tidbit of advice is never ever, ever try to go on a weekend. Ever. Unless of course you love crowds of kids and seniors and adults and more kids and strollers and old people with walkers and kids who run and cry and run while they’re crying. You’ll thank me. Hopefully in Oreos.

Ripley's Aquarium

The aquarium was full of kid-friendly interactive displays. I learned tons of stuff and found out some interesting facts. None of which I remember now. But that’s what seeing SHARKS did. It made my brain explode and force out all unnecessary information to make room for SHARK memories.

And now I’m wasting valuable hours researching shark diving / swimming with sharks / weird shit found in shark stomachs. My life has been changed forever.

I’ll leave you with a few more choice snapshots, and the assurance that Elizabeth thoroughly enjoyed her 6th birthday trip to Ripley’s.
