Do “Do Overs” Exist?

Today’s Daily Prompt asked:

If you could return to the past to relive a part of your life, either to experience the wonderful bits again, or to do something over, which part of you life would you return to? Why?

It’s going to sound cliché, but I’ve always just accepted the past, knowing it is what brought me to my present. There are dozens of events I could wish to do over, adjust slightly, or completely delete from my history, but I wouldn’t it for fear of the consequences to my current {happy} life.

What if I had hung out with a better behaved group of kids in my teens? Sure, I’d have gotten into less trouble, and my mom would have had less reason to colour her hair (sorry Mom!). But I don’t think I would appreciate the true friends I have right now. The ones who are generous, selfless and hilarious, who make me feel like the best person in the world, just because I’m being me.

What if I had worked harder in school, gotten a post secondary education, and had a career instead of heading to work when I was 18? Then I wouldn’t have worked for A&P (thanks Jo Anne!), met my first ever roommate (Hi Heather!) and moved out of my mom’s house. Without those events, I wouldn’t have moved to Burlington on the suggestion of my (who knew?!) future husband. See kids, being successful isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But marrying successful is!!

Maybe, just maybe, I would go back to when my first-born was brand new and stress less about everything. Who cares when you eat / sleep / poop / walk / talk? First-born kids and all their awesomeness are tarnished by the stress that new parents experience. Maybe I should have been born out in the sticks, without the internet to judge guide me? Oh well.

Now that I’m writing this, the only thing I truly regret is not stopping to get a photo with Cam Woolley when I saw him at the Barrie, ON. rest stop last summer. Mark my words, Cam, should the universes align again, that’s do over for sure.

I’m curious – would you do anything over? Why? And, do you like cake? I do…

      1. That would be a great idea as marriage is just so challenging if you walk into it blindly. Heck, even at my not-so-tender age, now almost 5 years into a relationship, it still takes so much patience, self-sacrifice, laughter and thought!
Thanks for following me and your encouragement 🙂

  1. Ok. Let me begin with saying….if you hung out with better kids when you were a teen….I probably wouldnt like you as much as I do…I like the influences those other kids had on you…because I like you how you are……you are not boring and I appreciate that………Next – if you didnt start working when you were wroking, I probably wouldnt have met you……..Further – If youwere born in the sticks…..again, I wouldnt like you as much as I do…you wouldnt have been able to tell that kid that you will “steal his kicks”……Lastly……..I f’in LOVE cake……and you xoxo
